I passed through the Center of the World between visits to two of its
largest things. Plus there was cheese and candy and Packards galore.
I started the day with the largest collection of steam engines in the
country and ended it with the largest collection of Asbury Jukes in the
world.
I tried a diner, a cemetery, a telephone, and an Alpine tinged museum
on the way to drinking wooly pig beer and sleeping in a train car.
I filled my birthday with a diner, some breweries, a pub, and an inn. Yes,
life is good.
Prelude 1 was barely posted when an ad for a band I like rolled across my
Facebook feed. Seeing that it was for a concert in the far corner of the
state, I initially scrolled right by. Then it hit me that I was going to
be near that corner near that time so I scrolled right back. The result is
that I've extended my fling another day and am all set to see Southside
Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in a restored theater that just celebrated its
100th birthday.
I don't believe I ever really thought about traveling on my birthday until
I couldn't. In 2020, a repeatedly delayed trip was pushed to my birthday
before being scuttled by the COVID-19 shutdown. It eventually happened in
August of 2022. In 2021, I used my birthday as an excuse to hit the road
for three days. Last year I celebrated with a two-day one-night trip and
this year I have a three day trip planned. It has been more or less
organized around a railroad museum in Sugarcreek, Ohio, but I'll not get
there until the last day of the trip after I've celebrated in Granville.
