After a short and sweet general membership meeting, I had an uneventful
but beautiful drive home. The weather was near perfect and the sky was
fantastic. The conference was great and it got me psyched for
next year.
No travel today. I attended some presentations and visited a museum across
the street. The day ended with the awards banquet.
My bus tour du jour was east along the Lincoln Highway to Chester, West
Virginia. After brick roads and museums, we were back in Canton for a
classic movie in a classic theater.
Today was the first of two bus tour days and I was on the bus that
traveled through Amish country. Educational, entertaining, and delicious.
I joined the pre-conference Founder's Tour in Niles, Ohio, and cruised to
Canton via Warren and Akron.
So much for topless driving. This was a top up day with rain or the threat
of rain a day long fact. I still had a good time, though, and hooked up
with a long time roadie friend and met the owner of a classic motel on the
Lincoln Highway.
I got the trip started today by driving an old car over an old familiar
road. Toward day's end I found some really cool stuff in a building I've
just been driving by in the past.
The 2012 Lincoln Highway Association Conference will take
place in Canton, Ohio. That happens to be toward the opposite corner of
the state from my home but it's still less than 200 miles away. That means
there was never any question of me attending. Although the distance can be
driven in just a few hours, I've never had a problem creating multi-day
road trips to that area and it will be even easier with the conference and
associated activities. Conference dates are June 18 through June 22 but my
trip is certain to extend that by a day or two on each end.
