Day 3

May 26, 2008
I started the day on some nice two-lane and even a little one-lane before an unplanned roadside meeting with roadie Pat Bremer. I then followed Pat along interesting Indiana back roads on the way to a reopened diner.

By my count I saw 75 cars at the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum, 51 at Hostetler's Hudson Collection, and another 50 at the Studebaker Museum. That's 176 automobiles plus quite a few carriages and wagons and one plow. I'd have never made it without a hearty breakfast at Cindy's.

A three day weekend with great weather is something that's too good to pass up but planning a trip wasn't all that easy. I did not actually have three travel days to work with since Saturday morning would be spent at my Dad's. My departure point would be Greenville, Ohio. The departure time to be determined. I estimated my earliest possible start time and worked out a route that would lead to lunch in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at Cindy's Diner and an afternoon visit to the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum north of town. Perhaps one of both of those would be in the company of a friend who lives nearby. I learned that the friend would be working most of the weekend and chores would have me leaving Greenville closer to 3:00 than to noon. So, instead of moving west to follow my planned route up US-27, I reverted to an earlier idea and, after a few local stops, just headed north on US-127.
