I drove north for an hour to look at a mold collection then drove south to
visit a couple of breweries before truly setting out for home.
The final day of the conference was filled with a bus tour to Milwaukee
where the Fonz and a world-famous duck awaited.
Sandwiched between two days of bus tours, today's paper sessions gave us a
chance to just sit around and listen to some great presentations on a wide
range of topics.
A big day on the bus with stops at a bridge, a trading post, a sculpture
park, a theater, a warehouse, a "regular" (that's a joke) house,
and a club.
After starting another day with breakfast with a friend, I headed straight
to Wisconsin Dells and a delightful boat ride.
I started off with a cameo in someone else's road trip, missed a hoped for
meeting (but enjoyed the stop), and ended with a Cincinnatian at a
Kankakee boat club.
I have planned to attend this for quite some time but it took the imminent
closing of the registration window to get me to act. I made it -- barely
-- and have now found a few minutes to starting preparing a space on the
website for it. It will be only the second Society for Commercial
Archeology conference I've attended. The first one was about twenty miles
from home. This one isn't that close but it's not terribly far away. In
theory, I could make the 500 mile drive to Wisconsin Dells in a day but I
won't. I'll do one overnight on the way there and likely do the same on
the way home. The conference opens June 5.
