Preclude - April 11, 2008
In mid-March, Ray was struck from behind and suffered neck injuries that
have him in a halo. A variety of treatments are being undertaken in hopes
of fusing four bone fragments. Surgery remains a possibility. A drive of
any length is obviously out of the question and the Ehlys has abandoned
plans of traveling to Bowling Green this year.
In light of that, I, too, have changed my plans. Instead of Bowling Green,
Kentucky, I'll be driving to Galion, Ohio, that weekend to attend the
Ohio Lincoln Highway League annual conference. And
I'll be hoping for Ray's recovery so we can hook up on some road next
year.
Prelude - January 23, 2008
I've maintained my membership and I've stopped by the National Corvette
Museum from time to time but I haven't attended an event there since the
2004 Birthday
Bash. That '04 Bash was a chance to reconnect with Ray Ehly who I had
first met ten months before at the tail end of his Z06 powered 63 day
50 state cruise.
Ray and I have had a few phone chats and email exchanges since then but
the email that arrived Friday was a bit different. Ray was, in his words,
"contemplating going to the NCM Birthday Bash in April". So I
started contemplating it, too. The weekend was a bit busy but on Monday I
checked out a few dates and decided it was feasible. On Tuesday I answered
Ray's note. By noon, Ray was registered for the Bash and, by day's end, so
was I. I don't know where or when we'll connect or what path either of us
will follow to and from Bowling Green. All I know now is that I'll be at
the
Corvette Birthday Bash on the last weekend in April and so
will Ray and wife Karen. And that, as everyone knows, is all you need to get a
good road trip rolling.
