I drove to Medina and found the Castle. The parking lot was full. A friendly passer-by pointed to another just beyond. I parked and walked back to the Castle where a few small groups stood just outside the door designated for walk-ins. Those with advance reservations had their own door. Inside was full and there was a line of people buying tickets. The people outside and shuffling about the gift shop had tickets in hand and were waiting for their tour to start. Tours departed every seven minutes! I stood in line while just how naive I had been slowly registered. Schools are out. Families are gathered and looking for things to do. Castle Noel is open year round but December 26 just might be its busiest day. If not, it's near the top.

I slipped out of the line and walked up and around the town square. I relaxed and sipped a brew at an inviting pub. When I walked back past the Castle, no one was hanging out by the door. That's when I took the exterior photo. I briefly thought that maybe what I'd seen earlier was merely a spike but a glance inside told me nothing had really changed. I retrieved my car and headed on home. I'm thinking that Castle Noel in July is a much better idea.
