Jimmy's Main Street Grill opens at 5:00 so I headed there for breakfast to make use of pre-sunrise time.

I wanted to stay in Brownsville until after sunrise to take these pictures. Here's my room at the Sunrise Inn. The barber shop building as always stood in front of the Mindfield but the museum signs are new to me. I definitely need to come back when it is open.

The last four pictures are of Billy Tripp's Mindfield which has also has some things added since I was last here.

A big snow storm was predicted to hit the midwest today and I had an end-run around it in mind. Moving southwest was my plan with vague thoughts of Hot Springs being the destination. US-70 would be my path. In Memphis, I relied on the GPS to ge me through town and it had me crossing the Mississippi on I-40. I finally got back on US-70 at Forest City, AR.

I really need to research the geology and transportation history of this area more. Much of US-70 in Arkansas looks as if it has been artificially elevated above the water level. Water filled ditches often run beside it. Sometimes there is roadside water that reminds me of Louisiana bayous. Apparently this bayou-looking spot is called Hill Lake.

I got deeper into Little Rock than I thought I would and took this picture of the capitol through my windshield.

When I got to Hot Springs, I cruised the historic district once each way. Things were certainly off from what I've see in the summertime and I think I probably could have found a parking spot on the street with another pass or two but I didn't even try. I headed to Sqzbx Brewing where I found a spot right at the front door. Much of the artwork at Sqzbx is made from pieces from real musical instruments. While sipping a porter, I looked at some lodging on line and believe I could have spent the night in or near the historic district for not much money. The reason, of course, is that few people want to walk around in the cold. I didn't either.

I headed onto Glenwood and a familiar motel. On the way, I encountered a little snow that combined with the low temperatures to freeze my doors shut. At Ouachita Mountain Inn, it required a few shoulder slams to get out of the car. I checked into this room then checked out the weather. The important part of that weather report is not the temperature. It was terribly cold and getting colder. The exciting bit was the phrase "No precipitation expected today". I had successfully ducked under the snow.

From my warm room, I discovered that there was a new-to-me brewery just a few miles away. I headed over to Slate Rock Brewing to celebrate dodging the blizzard with a red ale.

Then it was back to Glenwood and one of my favorite Italian restaurants. There was both good and bad news at the door. The good news was that old guys like me got a discount on Thursdays which this happened to be. Sadly, that was trumped by the bad news that the approaching weather had prompted the restaurant to close for the day. Fortunately the nearby Fish Nest was open with a nice buffet. I did not go hungry.
