Because of a recent blog post that had me revisiting some of my Dad's military history, the town of Keyser, WV, was fresh in my mind. It is the home town of Jonah Kelley, the 78th Division's only Medal of Honor recipient. I also stopped here the other time I stayed at the Koolwink but I don't recall the road designation and I know the cannons were not displayed. There is a somewhat better view of the top mounted plaque here.

Knowing that a scenic railroad operated near Romney, I always figured that I would take a ride if I ever stayed at the Koolwink again. However, as this stay approached, I learned that the only thing the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad would be running at the time was The North Pole Express. I drove by to take a look but the idea of spending the afternoon with Santa Claus and a literal train load of kids wasn't all that appealing.

Instead, I drove about forty miles northeast to the The Farnham Colossi. I don't know whether or not the Farnhams were home. No one came out to shoo me away or invite me in so, except for walking around what I perceived as a parking area near the barn, I pretty much kept to the property's perimeter. This is indeed a colossal collection of some colossal -- and often iconic -- stuff.

I almost always check for nearby breweries at an overnight stop but it seems there were none particularly close to Romney. However, a check from the Farnhams' driveway turned up two within a reasonable distance. In addition to collecting (electronically) breweries, I collect (also electronically) counties and the breweries combined with the colossi to secure two of the three counties in that weird bit of West Virginia dangling at its eastern tip. I'll get the third one when I leave.
