I decided to drive US-42 to Cincinnati and to connect with it from downtown Louisville on River Road and that took me right past the Louisville Water Tower. Completed in 1860, it suffered tornado damage in 1896 that was repaired by 1899. |
In Carrollton, I moved a block off of US-42 to have breakfast with a view at Welch's. |
When I picked US-42 for my drive home, I noticed that Rabbit Hash was about five miles from the highway and figured I should stop in if time allowed. Of course, that straight line five miles became about twelve road miles. I am always in awe of the general store when I see it and always feel compelled to mention that it burned to the ground in 2016 and was rebuilt, looking exactly as it had, in little more than a year. A photo gallery at the Rabbit Hash General Store website contains some photos of the rebuild. |
More for the novelty rather than the time savings, I decided to take the ferry over to the Indiana shore. There is a blog post about my first ride on the ferry here. |

I first associated music with my Christmas day journal page in 2010 but it was hit and miss for the first few years and when it did hit it was through text links. I finally embedded a video in 2016 and that has been a standard feature ever since. I linked to two Christmas videos, both from Jake Speed and the Freddies, in 2013. One of them is embedded at right and seems very appropriate for today. I have not gone to Rabbit Hash on Christmas Day as the song suggests but I have now gone to Rabbit Hash on Boxing Day and that's pretty close. And, in another improvement over 2013, I found the lyrics. |
