I spent the night in Etowah but I have no idea what the breakfast
situation was there because this was one meal I had planned before I left
home. I drove an hour away to Chattanooga and
Aretha Frankenstein's
where I had a Waffle of Insane Greatness!

As one of just two US routes passing through my birth county in Ohio,
US-127 has some special significance to me. I was aware that its southern
terminus was in Chattanooga but I'd never driven it. Today was the perfect
opportunity. It begins just a couple of miles from Aretha's and heads in
roughly the direction I wanted to go. It surprised me by being nearly as
wiggly as those motorcyclist's darlings I had been on recently for much of
its first twenty miles.
A sign at an overlook about seven miles south of Dunlap caused me to
initially believe that all those wiggles were part of the
Sequatchie Valley Scenic Byway but that's not quite
the case. The byway does include part of US-127 but they don't hookup
until Dunlap. The overlook is overlooking the Sequatchie River and the
byway on TN-28 just beyond. US-127 straightens itself out once it joins
the byway.
I stayed with US-127 to just north of Albany, Kentucky. Someday I'll have
to start at its north end in Michigan and drive south for a waffle.

The Plaza
Theater is on KY-90 in Glasgow. Built it 1934, it is obviously still
providing entertainment. What I assume to be contributors to the theater's
are recognized by several stars in squares in the sidewalk but one guy
just had to be different and use a circle.

Wigwam
Village No. 2 will be familiar to some. I've stayed here several time.
My most recent visit was in 2021 when I got to watch new owners Megan and
Keith
turn on the restored neon tepee sign. That story is
here.
Megan was off today so Keith handled all the registration, etc. He has
gathered quite a bit of history on the motel and shares some of that with
new guests. Almost all of tonight's guests arrived within minutes of each
other so we got to enjoy a little class room simulation. More history is
available in a binder in each room. After parking and unloading at my
room, I did a little walkabout.

There were about fifteen people staying at the village tonight and almost
all of us spent some time at the campfire. Everyone but me was here to
take in Mammoth Cave. Most were frome within a few hundred miles but there
were two couples from Italy and Portland, Oregon, was also represented.
One couple brought the makings for s'mores (marshmallows, chocolate,
graham crackers) and readily shared with anyone interested. For the
Italians, this was a first and they definitely approved.
