I moved nearly 400 miles north today but not much else happened and, if I
hadn't started this trip journal yesterday, I'd be tempted to delay it
another day. But that would deprive you of the snow story and the little
bit of drama involved in that. When I went to bed last night, there were
predictions of snow hitting Mason City around 4:00 AM and falling at a
rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. I was relieved to see almost no new snow
on the ground when I looked out the window this morning but soon learned
that it was still on the way. It had merely been delayed. When I hit the
road around 8:00, a little snow was falling but the streets were clear.

Light snow and clear pavement was still the case when I reached the north
edge of town but the rate of snow was increasing. The first two pictures
were taken about two miles apart as I drove west toward the expressway.
The third picture is of the I-35 entrance. The last three pictures are all
on I-35. I passed a couple of salt trucks then settled in behind a semi
moving at 40-50 MPH. The last picture was taken about 9:00 when it was
looking like I had succeeded in getting north of the storm. Behind me, 5
to 8 inches were being predicted for Mason City.

This was my only tourist activity of the day. I captured the sculpture
made of three real T-38 Talon Thunderbirds while passing the Owatonna
airport.

The sky was blue and the temperature 55 when I called it a day at Grand
Forks. North Dakota. I'm set for an easy drive to Winnipeg tomorrow.
