Back in 1999 on that first Route 66 road trip, John and I ate breakfast at
the Pine
Country Restaurant in Williams Arizona. I did
it again today. Parked cars prevented me from exactly recreating that
1999 picture of another red
convertible but I tried.

So I'm driving 66 when I'm 66, sort of. I'm only covering a portion of its
length and I'm spending a lot of time on interstates and just cherry
picking some roadside attractions. I'm not really seeing anything new so
photographs of the Valiant at Route 66 icons is about all I'm getting. It
seems unlikely that the car will pass this way again.

You can start coasting a long way before you reach Albuquerque, New Mexico,
a town that wants people to know it is on Historic Route 66. I once again
stayed at the Monterey
Non-Smokers Motel and walked over to nearby Old Town. I was here about
a year ago. It was on a Friday and I think some sort of festival may have
been in progress. The plaza and surrounding area was filled and lively. It
was kind of dead on Monday and almost didn't seem like the same place.
