This excursion proved so popular that a second bus was added and both looked full. On our bus, Stephen H. Smith narrated the ride along the Susquehanna Trail to the Northern Central Railway station in New Freedom, PA. We were able to watch the train arrive and explore the museum there before it was time to go.

On board, our tickets were punched as Scott Mingus filled us in on the history of the railroad and the sights we passed. The last picture is of one of a pair of flaggers who leap-frogged each other to keep ungated crossings safe as the train passed.

Our destination was Hanover Junction where another small museum awaited in the station. While there, Scott told of some of the junction's history which included a hospital and railroad access point for wounded from the battle of Gettysburg. Around 11,000 wounded U.S. soldiers and several hundred Confederate wounded passed through here.

The train continued past the station to where a siding could be used to move the engine to the other end of the cars. The picture is of its welcome return. As we headed back to New Freedom, I was able to snap a picture of Stephen who had been our guide on the earlier bus ride. The lady in the last picture had recorded the train at every opportunity as it passed, but I only managed to get her picture at the last crossing. Behind her, the other flagger can be seen returning to his car.

On the bus ride back to York, with Scott as our guide, we stopped at Brown's Orchards and Farm Market. Lazy me only got pictures of our box lunches waiting to be eaten and our buses waiting to be boarded.

Abe Lincoln arrived at the awards banquet early so that all who desired could get a photo with him. Then, after the meal, he entertained us all with some of his memories, ending with the Gettysburg Address.

I didn't attempt to record all the awards but did get a shot of patriotically dressed Kay Sheldon Kozak who presented most of them. Before award presentations began, Ohio's LHA Director Scott Little told us about plans for next year's conference in Lima, OH. It looks like I'll have a good chance at attending two LHA conferences in a row.

That's Educator of the Year Spencer Simpson in the third photo. He chose to accept the award as the LHA's first president Henry B. Joy, and did an excellent job.
