As I drove through Springfield, a red light stopped me directly in front
of the Illinois capitol. I immediately snapped a few pictures with the
camera but the sun was low behind the dome and there was major back
lighting. I thought of a recent conversation about cameras that contained
the observation that phone cameras had become so good and the electronics
so "smart" that phones almost always produce a usable photo
even though it might not be the best photo. It was a long light, and I
eventually grabbed my phone and snapped this photo.
At the end of the day, as I removed my bags from the car, I popped the
memory card from the camera and slipped it into a pocket on the laptop
case just as I've done many times before. In my room, I reached into that
pocket only to find it empty. Searches of the room, the car, and my path
in between turned up nothing. I keep thinking it will turn up in an
unexpected spot as things often do but, unless that happens, this is the
only evidence of my drive from Anderson, IN, to Jacksonville, IL.
