I spent the night not far from Pike's Peak in Woodland Park and this is
the view that greeted me when I headed west in the morning.

And this is just a collection of good looking stuff between Woodland Park
and Leadville.

I had no idea what these big rocks were when I first saw them but I have
since learned that they figure prominently in the annual
Leadville Boom
Days jack leg drilling competition. They are what gets drilled.

I have encountered numerous construction delays on this trip but the one
I hit shortly after passing that big stone wall may have been the longest
time wise. That's because there was a significant wait for the pilot
vehicle. I didn't really mind, though, since I had some pretty good
scenery to look at while I waited. When the pilot did appear, we were
quickly on our way following his yellow pickup through the work zone.

Back in 2009, I drove US-6 eastbound through Glenwood Canyon and remember
it as supplying some gorgeous scenery. Today I did it westbound and the
scenery was just as gorgeous as I remember.
