I encountered another wreck on I-5 as I headed north but traffic was lighter than during my southbound encounters and the delay was fairly short. I could let you believe that I intentionally blurred the damaged car in the second picture in order to protect the victim's identity but the truth is it was a one-handed no-look shot and the camera focused on the dash rather than the car.

Fans of Route 66 know that its original western end point was at the intersection of 7th Street and Broadway in Los Angeles. That's where the National Old Trails Road ended before the US Highways came along in 1926. Today I approached the intersection on 7th, passing through several sad clusters of homeless people and their tents.

Soon after turning onto Broadway, I passed the Palace Theater where all of the presentations were held during the 2016 International Route 66 Festival. The first day of my journal for the festival is here. Then it was the Los Angeles Theater which appears to have completed the renovations that were underway when we toured it during that festival.

When it's not a weekend filled with major events nearby, the Saga's rates are still reasonable so that's where I stayed while heading east. Knowing that the Museum of Neon Art was just a few miles away, I was kind of excited to check in with enough time left in the day to go see it. The excitement instantly vanished when I learned that the museum is only open Thursday through Sunday. Today was Monday.

I have stayed at the Saga in the past and fondly remembered three nearby establishments. I had already picked my dinner and breakfast spots before I entered my room. But my anticipated dinner spot, Cameron's Seafood, had closed during the pandemic and not reopened. The breakfast spot, Andy's Coffee Shop, is closed one day a week. Yep, that day is Tuesday. Fortunately, the third establishment I remembered, Lucky Baldwin's, was very much open with its wall of taps and some pretty good fish & chips.
