It was supposed to be a small crowd. The target was thirty or so for a Patrick Sweany house concert in Loveland, Ohio, and there were thirty on the list. But just about twenty hardy and lucky fans braved the snow and temperature to hear Patrick cut loose in a truly intimate setting. James & Jen McKenna hosted the event and I first met James on the snow covered bike trail as he was placing a few signs and luminaries as guide posts. That's James silhouetted in the first picture as he attends to the south end of the foot/bicycle bridge. Even many that weren't deterred by the snow were delayed by it but no one was in a particular hurry. Patrick began the first of two sets a little before 8:00. He played old stuff, new stuff, and even a couple of covers. Some of that new stuff was from an album due out this summer. That's it, on three reels of analog! tape, in the bag behind Patrick's chair. It's gonna be a good one. Patrick chatted with folks, including some old school mates in attendance, from the "stage" and drifted easily into a number of one-on-one conversations between sets. I don't remember any actual dancing but it sure looks like Pat is about to bust a move in the last picture of the third row. Each set was a tad over an hour and the night ended with that rare sense of being extremely satisfied yet ready for more. What a wonderful evening.
