We have reached End Of Festival and I have to go home. I passed through
Clinton one last time and even stopped at the museum. I have Jim Ross's
Oklahoma Route 66 book and made good use of it on this trip. For a
variety of reasons, Jim hadn't signed it yet and I thought there was a
chance he might be there since he and Shellee Graham had a
photo
display in the lobby during the festival. I wasn't even sure the
museum would be open, but it was and both Bob Waldmire & Michael
Wallis were there which was encouraging. But no Jim, so I headed back to
the parking lot. A car was just pulling in and, in a last bit of Oklahoma
luck, it was Jim and Shellee. Jim graciously signed the book in the
parking lot. Maybe I could have been a successful stalker after all.
I hit the expressway with time to spare so decided to make a stop in
Weatherford that I had skipped last Sunday. I had passed this park with
the windmill blade last week but wasn't even sure what it was until later.
I was on "extended range" after finding that Lucille's Roadhouse
was closed so didn't feel all that free with my time. There are large
clusters of electricity generating windmills west of Weatherford and, as
soon as I saw them I realized what the big white object was. I also now
realize just how big those things spinning around atop those tall poles
are.

I don't know how I've lived this long without knowing that El Reno,
Oklahoma, is the home of the "onion burger" but I encountered
that reference a lot on this trip. I approached El Reno just a little
while after noon today, so testing another Oklahoma 'burger joint for
lunch seemed a natural. The EZ66 Guide recommends Jobe's and
Johnnie's. I found Jobe's first but it was closed. There are a couple of
"For Sale" signs on the property but it has more of a
"closed on Sunday" look than a "waiting for buyer"
look. Two other hamburger stands, Sid's & Robert's Grill, also had
that "closed on Sunday" look but, in the case of Robert's, it
was an illusion. Even though it isn't a hamburger joint,
the Squawk-n-Skoot certainly deserves a picture. It was clearly
"closed on Sunday".

Johnnie's Grill, the other EZ66 Guide recommendation, was open and
it had a counter where I could watch the onions being piled on then
pressed into the 'burger as the ball of ground beef was pressed flat.
Johnnie's brags about the fact that they've been doing this since 1946 so
they may be the originator of the meal that made El Reno famous.

I still had some extra time before my flight so decided to visit the
capitol. I grabbed a picture as I approached then discovered that my
friends has saved me a parking place up close. It's fun to show the oil
derricks sitting in the capitol's front yard but a picture without them
can be had and it is a pretty good looking building.
