Just a couple of days before the start of this trip, a friend shared an
article on eight Columbus area diners that included one that I'd never
visited and was ever so slightly off of my direct path to Erie. Stav's
Diner doesn't look very "dinerish" on the outside but it's a
different story on the inside. The place was pretty full so I didn't get
any pictures of the counter and swivel stools but I did get a picture of
my breakfast.

My breakfast stop did get me involved in a construction detour but it
wasn't too long before I was back on the expressway and hurtling toward my
destination. When I realized I was an hour ahead of time target, I again
left the expressway. This time it was to checkout
Cornerstone
Brewing Company in Madison, Ohio. Two historic brick buildings are
tied together with the entrance in the middle.

In Erie, Fred Zander, with whom I'm sharing a room, had already checked in
which made meeting departure time for the evening cruise quite easy. On
the way to the dock, we had our first encounter with the amazingly
non-skittish local rabbit population.

The conference officially kicked off with a dinner cruise aboard the
Victorian
Princess departing from Dobbins
Landing.
|
|
After a buffet dinner (that included pierogis!) I started exploring the
boat a bit. The Princess is a diesel-powered steel-hulled
stern-wheeler built in 1986. I looked in on the captain then checked out
the drive mechanism, some fellow passengers, a neighbor, and the
uncluttered view.

We were back on solid ground before sunset.
