The original T to Sebring trip began on October 29, 1923, and I originally
planned to start my retrace attempt exactly 100 years later. Commitments
developed, however, that dictated a return date that made things look
pretty tight so I decided I would leave a couple of days early. When other
events had me in Greenville, OH, today, I decided to drive the additional
half-dozen miles to what I believe was the original start point and just
get on with it. Before heading south from Woodington, OH, I duplicated
a photo from the launch of the
2020 trip. Luckily, I wore a different shirt so you can tell the two
photos apart.

I probably should have stopped at the Maid-Rite when I reached Greenville
but I was kind of anxious to get the trip started so passed on by. I did
pause briefly ay the other end of Broadway to snap a picture of a very new
mural. "How new is it?" you ask. It was put up yesterday as seen
here on Facebook.

I stopped at Fort Jefferson not because of any mention in Granny's letters
but because of recent activity aimed at refurbishing the site and making
people aware of its significance. One side of the
sign tells about Fort Jefferson and the other
tells of St. Clair's Defeat in which the fort had a prominent role. A
fairly readable image of the plaque in the stone monument is
here.

At New Paris, OH, I went off route by just about one mile to check in
with some of my favorite innkeepers. Jeff Golden was busy with lights or
some such but I did chat with Lea Ann a bit and learned that the little
orchard they planted a few years ago is going strong. It has even produced
a few pecans but they have not been cracked open. They are much too
valuable. Here is the
orchard at my last visit.
Rain seemed possible so I walked down to the orchard even before entering
my room. As I walked to the other end of the motel lot, I heard hooves
approaching and caught a shot of the neighboring produce stand's pumpkins
and the Golden
Inn sign with an Amish buggy and US-40 sign in between. When I was
last here in 2017,
I did not post an interior collage because I thought I'd recently done so.
When I realized I hadn't, I promised one next time. I didn't think it
would be six years but it was. It's here.
