Tracing a T to Sebring: |

With only a portion of Granny's 1923 letters available, the route I've plotted for 2023 is naturally much shorter than the one plotted in 2020. That, in turn, is one reason this page is much shorter than the equivalent 2020 page (which was largely copied from the 2001 trip) but it isn't the main reason. This page is smaller mostly because I have omitted non-route-specific stuff about plotting a route with only place names from a century ago. The 1920 letters covered Granddad and Granny's time in Florida as well as their return to Ohio. That meant they traversed some roads multiple times and I used the Route page to explain how I had eliminated most of the repeats and compressed the route. None of that is required this time since the only portion of the 1923 trip that is known is the all-southbound travel from Ohio to Avon Park/Sebring in Florida. In 2020, I mentioned that, although some of the road that Granddad drove was clearly the Dixie Highway, the name never appeared in the letters. The name does appear in the 1923 letters, just once, in Kentucky. My planned route is divided into three segments at the KY-TN and GA-FL borders. GPX files and PDF versions of the directions are available below.
