Yes, this is a repeat. I spent the night right across the bridge so it seemed a natural. There are differences from my first visit like eating an omelet instead of a 'burger and failing to get a picture of my meal. But the big difference is that the weather was dry which allowed me to sit outside. It also made my pictures a little clearer and let me notice some details I'd missed such as the coupling that remains on the former railroad car. |

All of today's travel was through territory I drove through on the way south and I was following a rather streamlined route. I had actually planned on using I-75 on this leg, but in the end largely paralleled the interstate -- and the railroad -- on US-41. These three photos, from just south of the Georgia border, pretty much capture the whole day on flat Florida roads. Clear views of the tracks alternating with sections where they disappear behind trees. |

I haven't posted a courthouse in awhile. Here's one in Valdosta, the seat of Lowndes County, that is just about ready for Christmas. |

This is the Georgia version of the Florida triptych two panels back. Alternating visible and hidden railroad tracks with cotton fields added. |

I'm guessing the Tifton's Shady Lane Drive-Inn had car-hops back in the day but now it's drive-through and window service. It's been going since 1966. The Tift Theater opened in 1937. It is still hosting events although capacity is currently reduced due to COVID-19. I bet it looks pretty good at night. |

A short distance before reaching Ashburn, my GPS told me to drive some
number of miles on the Jefferson Davis Highway and I started checking
street signs. Apparently this marker is somehow related to an auxiliary
route of the
Jefferson Davis Highway with some sort of connection
to Davis' capture in Irwinville. The inscription is readable
here.
Ashburn is also home to the impressive Turner County courthouse. |
