This was the day's second excursion off my plotted route to follow Historic Route 6 signs. The first one was into a residential section, and didn't look right from the beginning. I abandoned it fairly quickly. This one continued several miles and ran by this lonely grave in a farmer's field.

This is my third visit to Wilton Candy Kitchen. The first time, I had a chocolate & peanut butter shake on the advice of J.C. and Abby. On the second visit, I had a root beer float even though owner Lynn Ochiltree said he thought their best thing was a chocolate malt. Today, I went in planning to order that chocolate malt but that's not what happened.

First off, I'd had a pretty skimpy breakfast at the motel, so a grilled ham and cheese sandwich seemed appropriate. It was accompanied by a cherry and root beer (flavor selected by Lynn) phosphate. Then I learned that, when Lynn named a chocolate malt as their best, he meant best seller. His personal favorite was a black raspberry malt. So, as I finished off my lunch, Lily went to work on a large black raspberry malt. Note that a large malt is mixed in two metal cups. That's it in the last picture, but, since I got it to go, it is in a non-picturesque paper cup rather than the fancy glass that would otherwise be used. Deliciousness and friendliness all the way around.

When I crossed the Mississippi River on I-74 in 2023, I wrote "I will never again have this view when exiting Iowa." because older bridges to the right of these were about to come down. Then you see 'em. Now you don't.

This is a repeat stop from 2023, and today's photos are very similar to the ones I took then. The water flow is just a bit heavier, though.

Peru, IL, is where I ended my day after passing this simulated (I think) Texaco station on the west edge of town.
