Fool’s Errand

The name comes from April Fools-A-Palooza in Lucas, KS, being the first thing in the trip plan with a firm date and location. Things have been added, both before and after April Fool’s Day, and it’s entirely possible that I’ll surprise myself with itinerary additions before it is over. The first day’s journal, which reaches Kansas City, KS, has been posted.

This entry lets blog-only subscribers know about the trip and provides a place for comments. The journal is here.

  1. so you circumvented us again!
Kendalville also has a Windmill Museum which might be of interest.

legend has it that Kendalville or Kendaltucky was populated by People from Hills of Kentucky heading to good paying jobs in Detroit and ran out of gas around Kendalville and settled there, thus explaining foul language you heard.

    • Yep, that trip didn’t end quite as intended and when I realized how close I passed to you I felt pretty dumb. I had intended to stay on US-6 well into Ohio but time ran out. I headed to Greenville from Kendallville and came within a few miles of you but by then I was committed to a time in Greenville. Regarding the foul language, no one in the place was the least bit confrontational, and the conversation the fellows were having was quite causal, but it did make the meal a bit more memorable. I stopped at the Windmill Museum in 2023 when headed west on US-6 but didn’t connect the name until I passed it on the way to dinner.
