Lynda and Jerry Alger drove the Jefferson Highway themselves a couple of
years ago and helped a lot with my planning including mention of the glass
restrooms in Sulphur Springs. When Jerry saw that's where I was, he
commented that the courthouse there was the "nicest I ever saw".
I actually hadn't noticed it in yesterday's rain but, since that is where
I returned to the JH this morning, I got a second chance. It was still
raining, but even in the wet I could see why Jerry was impressed. It is a
magnificent building. The adjacent area honoring veterans is pretty
impressive, too.
While I was on the square, I took a selfie with the aid of one of those
shiny cubes.

Raindrops don't exactly help in reading this welcome sign to Historic
Mount Vernon.

About ten miles west of Marshall, Texas, this narrow bit of road once
carried the Jefferson Highway. In Marshall, there's another impressive
courthouse.

This rustic little piece of JH is actually inside the city limits of
Waskom, Texas, which is right next to the Louisiana border. I ended my day
just beyond, on the outskirts of Shreveport.
