Today's journal, just like several previous ones, begins with breakfast. Maurice River Diner was right on my route.

I had a route plotted that avoided Philadelphia and got me to my destination with plenty of time to spare. Then I missed a turn and Garmin's ETA jumped by a couple of hours. I should have simply turned around and corrected the error but I tried to continue while sorting things and eventually switched to Google Maps navigation via Android Auto. That got my ETA back in range but sent me right through Philadelphia. The normally horrible congestion may have been made worse by the presence of the World Cup. At one point, at least twenty large SUVs passed in the opposite direction. About half were Philadelphia Police cars with lights flashing and sirens blaring. The others were unmarked black cars with lights flashing but no sirens. My first thought was it might be one of the competing teams being transported with an over the top escort, but I really have no idea.

I also have no idea why Garmin suddenly added a big eastern loop and two hours to my route, but suspect it may have had something to do with tolls on the Walt Whitman Bridge.

I believe this is the first time I have crossed the Susquehanna River into York and not been on the Veteran Memorial Bridge. That means this is the first time I've seen, let alone captured, this view.

This is the conference hotel and my home for the next four nights. The Yorktowne Hotel opened in 1925. I suspect my room has had some work done since then.

The conference opening reception was held a couple of blocks away at the Valencia Ballroom. The buffet had barely been noticed when I entered, but that soon changed. And the band (Unforgettable Big Band) played on. The current Miss Pennsylvania MCed and vocalist Cece Otto did several numbers with the band, but I failed to get useable pictures of either.
