Although the Arizona Madonna of the Trail monument stands beside a McDonald's drive-through, it is possible to photograph the lady without golden arches. Sometimes you can even catch her gazing at a just past full moon. The two unique panels are here. |

The "PIE FESTIVAL" sign in a place called Pie Town interested me enough to make me stop and read about it on the porch of the Pie-O-Neer. The Pie-O-Neer wasn't open but the nearby Gathering Place II was and they have pies -- and coffee. And I can vouch for the goodness of their cherry pie. |

Pie Town is right next to this sizable collection of windmills and just a couple of miles from the continental divide. |

When I was first able to identify the far off white object as a dish
antenna, I wondered what had happened to the nearby house with the big TV.
But I could soon see that there was more than one of these things and that
they were much bigger that any thing standing in a rural back yard. I was,
I then realized, driving through the middle of the
Very Large Array.
Seeing that a fence had been erected to keep trains out was reassuring.
From there I drove on to end the day in Albuquerque. |
