I had not really thought much about how I would actually get to my planned route. When the time came, I decided to use one US highway to get to another. I drove a few miles west then turned north on US-127.

In Hamilton, OH, I moved a few blocks off route to eat at Hyde's Restaurant which is a few months older than I am. Though neither one of us is very fancy, we're both still ticking and friendly and one of us serves a pretty good breakfast.

In my county of birth, US-127 carries an extra name.

I veered slightly off of US-127 in Celina, OH, to cruise along the shore of Grand Lake. This was one of three reservoirs built for the Miami Erie Canal in the first half of the nineteenth century. It was dug by hand and was the largest manmade lake in the world when completed. It remains the largest manually constructed lake. It appears that peoples' concepts of canal locks have changed over the years.

US-127 reaches US-20 about a mile and a half east of Alvordton, OH, and the two share pavement for a couple of miles before US-127 continues on to Michigan.

A creative reuse of hoods and trunk lids in Fayette, OH.

I waited to capture these motorcyclists with a US-20 sign, and when I did, I also captured what I believe is a 1961 or '62 Buick. I'm not 100% sure that the historic route sign near Bellvue, OH, is the first I passed but I am sure it's the first I saw.

These are pictures of a couple of old alignments near Monroeville, OH. The first is at the northwest corner of town; the second at the southeast corner.

I did drive just a wee bit (1.6 mile) off route to visit Muffleheads Brewery. In looking up the website address, I noticed that their Vanilla Cream Ale, which is what I had, is shown as SOLD OUT. I don't know how current that is so am not sure how lucky I should feel.

I definitely got lucky on dinner. When I checked into my motel (a chain), I asked about restaurants and was told that the only nearby independent they usually recommended was closed on Sundays. There were plenty of chains, however. I did a little looking online and found a BBQ place that appeared to be independent. I don't normally associate northern Ohio with great BBQ or at least I didn't. I certainly will now that I've eaten at Uncle Bo's. Everything on that tray is a legitimate candidate for best of breed.
