A little east of Ottawa, IL, I came upon these bug infested trees. Google
Maps identifies the resting spot of the car behind the tree in the first
picture but in the clear in the second, as Volvo Island. A rather secure
parking spot, I would think.

In Joliet, IL, US-6 meets up with some other well known highways.

Near Hobart, IL, I thought I was pulling over to photograph just another
faux classic gas station, but I could see through the windows that this
was something much more. Clearly the building's occupant likes old Buicks,
but I've yet to find more info about the place.

At some point during the day, I determined that there was a promising
restaurant and several promising motels in Kendallville, IN, and decided
to end my day and my trip there. However, when I actually reached,
Kendallville, I discovered that the promising restaurant had apparently
been a figment of my imagination. The promising motels were not, so I was
able to bed down there, and I settled on a place just a few miles south
for my birthday dinner. Taps Pub has a bunch of pool tables and ash trays on
the bar, where I sat next to two of the more foulmouthed locals I've ever
encountered, but it did produce a very good mushroom burger. I have no
complaints about the lack of a fancy birthday dinner. I'm just happy to
have the birthday.
