This picture is from my 2016 New Old Ohio trip. The name comes from two established Ohio historical attractions debuting considerable newness. I first visited Ohio Village at the Ohio State Historical Museum, which had switched from representing the 1860s to representing the 1890s. The picture is of an appropriately dressed couple I followed from the museum to the village. On the trip’s second day, I stopped at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, OH, which was reopening following a 1.3 million renovation. The story of the extremely bitter election of 1876, which was ultimately decided in favor of Hayes by Congress, is told there.
Trip Peeks are short articles published when my world is too busy or too boring for a current events piece to be completed in time for the Sunday posting. In addition to a photo thumbnail from a completed road trip, each Peek includes a brief description of that photo plus links to the full-sized photo and the associated trip journal.
